Promises and Betrayal in Magongo

Waceke Kiratu.

When Mr. Gabriel ran for his seat,
A beautiful lady, Rosette, took the lead,
Promising the community goodies, like any politician.
Over valleys she went, ensuring he succeeded.
Mobilizing everyone, even her 90-year-old grandma,
Castles built around her deluded dreams.
August came; she woke the community with a microphone:
"Amkeni, vote for Gabriel!" her voice gleamed.
And the people obeyed, unlike Eve.
He won, and her life began to unravel.
Promises unkept, streetlights never seen,
"There's no money yet," he'd babble.
Empty coffers, but enough for travels.
When she inquired about cabro, he repeated,
"Hakuna pesa bana, make them understand,"
Said Gabu, who never uttered any word in English.
On Monday, his number was off;
A new assistant had taken her place.
Her services no longer needed,
Her heart filled with disgrace.
In the hall, she shouts with anger;
Mr. Gabu sits with pride, nonchalant.
She's shouting like a madwoman—
The community will never trust her again.
Mr. Gabu promised small business loans,
Youth centers to curb insecurity.
A dream or reality waiting to unfold?
Will Rosette be his opposition bold?

Our popcorn is ready
To watch the story unfold,
As Rosette, betrayed and used,
Faces the man with a heart of stone.
