LEVELING THE GROUND FOR DREAMS. A STORY OF KAMKUNJI FOOTBALL GROUNDS

By Alex Maina

For a long time, young footballers in Kamkunji, Kidiwa, and Bondeni had a hard time finding a good place to train. They either had to walk far or use the only field near them Kamkunji Grounds, also known as Kingstone Grounds.

But this field was in very bad condition. It had many holes, and players kept getting ankle injuries. When it rained, the pitch would fill with water. Before training or matches, players brought old mattresses to soak up the stagnant water. It was painful to watch.

The field was too bumpy. Players could not practice passing or dribbling well. Coaches struggled to teach them proper football skills. The field was killing their dreams slowly.

But now, things are getting better.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has done something great. They poured new soil on the field and brought big roller machines to flatten the ground. The field is now smoother and safer.

Coach Otieno of Azam FC says, “We’ve waited for this for years. Our boys can now train well. The way you train is how you play.”

Brian, a young player from Kidiwa, says, “I used to fear getting injured. Now I can practice my skills like the players on TV. I believe one day I’ll wear the Kenyan jersey.”

This is more than just a fixed field. It is a field of hope. A place where boys and girls can chase their dreams without fear. It gives them a chance to grow, to shine, and to believe in themselves.

Now, football in Kamkunji, Kidiwa, and Bondeni has a new future. Young talents can practice, improve, and be seen. One day, one of them might become a star and it will all have started here, on this level ground where dreams began to rise.
