CREATING SPACE FOR LEARNING AND GROWTH

By Alex Maina

Education at Eldoret Union Primary School has received a major boost through the support of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund. For many years, the school faced serious congestion because the number of learners kept increasing while the classrooms available were not enough. Pupils were forced to learn in very crowded rooms, which made it hard for them to concentrate during lessons. Teachers also found it difficult to manage classes well because of the limited space.

To solve this challenge, the construction of an eight-classroom block was started at the school. So far, four classrooms have already been completed while the remaining four are nearing completion. The completed classrooms have already helped the learners in a big way. The congestion has reduced, and learners now have more space to sit and learn comfortably. The learning environment is now more peaceful, and pupils are able to focus better in class.

Teachers have expressed their happiness about the progress. One teacher, Madam Were, said that overcrowding had affected learning for a long time. She explained that some learners could not concentrate well because the classrooms were too full. She added that the new classrooms have already made teaching easier and improved how learners respond during lessons. She said the school is now moving in a positive direction.

Speaking during a bursary disbursement program held at Kaplelach Primary School on 7th May 2026, area MP Janet Sitienei reaffirmed her commitment to improving education in the constituency. She said that education is the foundation of a better future and promised continued support for school development projects. She encouraged the community to work together in supporting learners.

The project is also appreciated by Irene Sambuli, who serves under BUDA CBO and is also a member of the school board. She said the new classrooms have given learners a better space to study and grow. She noted that the improved environment will help children perform better and build confidence in their education.

Overall, the ongoing classroom project has brought hope to the school community. It has already improved learning conditions and reduced congestion. Once all the classrooms are fully completed, the school will have a stronger and more comfortable learning environment that will benefit learners for many years to come
