COMMUNITY BARAZA SHEDS LIGHT ON KIDIWA PHASE II AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

By Alex Maina

Residents of Mwanzo recently had the opportunity to learn more about the Affordable Housing Project, Kidiwa Phase II, during a Chief’s community baraza held on 10th March 2026 at the Chief’s Office. The meeting provided a platform for the community to be sensitized on the project, understand its benefits, and raise concerns directly with the team behind it.

The session was led by the Boma Yangu team, who came prepared to educate residents in a simple and clear manner. The move by Boma Yangu to engage the community through this baraza was very commendable, as it emphasized transparency and allowed residents to gain first-hand information about how the project works. By the end of the meeting, the community had a much better understanding of the project, which helped reduce doubts and fears about participation.

One of the key moments came when Jakson Wako, a resident of Mwanzo area, asked what would happen if someone had already started paying for a house but later disliked the idea. Would their money be returned? Madam Christine Chebii from the Boma Yangu team explained the e-wallet system, showing how all funds deposited are safely stored. Residents were informed that they could get a full refund if they chose to opt out, except for the Ksh 200 registration fee. This clarification gave people peace of mind and showed how the project protects the interests of the community.

Another important topic raised was drainage concerns in adjacent areas. Mr. Richard Omondi asked how the housing project would prevent similar issues. Madam Christine Chebii explained that Kidiwa Phase II has been designed with a modern drainage and treatment system that will effectively manage water flow and prevent sanitation problems. Residents were reassured that the project is mindful of long-term sustainability and safety.

For many, the session was inspiring and motivating. Mercy Chepkemoi, a resident of Mwanzo, shared her excitement: “I never knew so much about this housing project. After learning how everything works, I feel confident and even plan to book a unit and start paying for it. It feels good to know my money is safe, and that the project will be well-managed.”

The baraza was more than just a meeting it was a sensitization exercise that allowed residents to ask questions, receive practical answers, and understand how they could benefit from participating in the project. By the end of the session, residents left informed, confident, and ready to make decisions about joining Kidiwa Phase II. The initiative demonstrated how effective community sensitization can empower people, address concerns, and build trust between project implementers and the community they serve.
