Uwezo Fund Uplifts Kisumu West as Beneficiaries Double in One Year

By Joel Clinton

UWEZO Fund in Kisumu West has experienced significant growth this year. The number of beneficiary groups has doubled compared to last year. This progress was highlighted during a cheque disbursement ceremony where thirty-two groups received funding to support their economic projects.

Of the thirty-two groups, twenty-eight were new beneficiaries, while four were refinanced. This shows that these groups had successfully repaid their previous loans and qualified for new funding. The funded groups mainly come from agribusiness, trade, and service sectors, showcasing the diverse entrepreneurial spirit in the constituency.

UWEZO Fund is one of the government’s main financial empowerment programs. It aims to uplift organized and registered groups through accessible financing. The initiative looks to strengthen economic activities, promote self-reliance, and open opportunities for youth, women, and community organizations.

Through the Women and Youth departments, the constituency office has actively engaged residents in informative programs. These sessions help potential beneficiaries gain the knowledge and skills needed to qualify for the fund and effectively manage their projects. The impact of these efforts was clear, as the total number of beneficiaries this year more than doubled last year’s count. This achievement brought great satisfaction to the organizers.

During the event, the Member of Parliament was represented by her Personal Assistant, Susan Otieno. She attended with Mr. Osula, the Constituency Manager. Together, they led a dedicated team from the Constituency Office to ensure the ceremony ran smoothly.

The ceremony was led by Mr. Anthony Otenyo, the Sub-County Youth Development Officer. He praised the commitment of the participating groups, encouraging them to invest wisely for sustainable growth.

Special thanks went to the UWEZO committee members, led by their chairman, Mr. Felix Kowili. His strong leadership has ensured effective coordination and accountability within the program. Their hard work resulted in the successful disbursement of Ksh 3.5 million, providing renewed hope and opportunities to many households in Kisumu West.

This day marked another significant step in the constituency’s journey toward social and economic change.
