Freddy keeps on ranting,

Freddy keeps on chanting,

“Kasongo must go! Zakayo shuka!”

His statements are never complete without;

“Form ni one term, wantam, wan…”

Freddy just turned twenty one,

A Gen Z burning from the heat of unemployment

A young man hustling day and night

Because back at home, he is the knight

He is their light

Keeps on blaming the government but he has to grind

And he cannot quit!

Yesterday I met Freddy, and after greetings

He started his usual ranting

“Kasongo must go! Form ni one term”

And the only question I asked him was,

“Freddy umechukua kura? Have you registered as a voter?

Because we both know you didn’t vote last time”

And his answer didn’t disappoint, naahh

It annoyed me! I got angry!

Why spite a government yet do nothing about it?

I felt the betrayal.

Why rant, while your actions speak the opposite of your words?

If you wanted to change the narrative, you would, so why not?

Siri ni numbers, and this ain’t a joke!

And its only done by a simple and free process that shapes the future

Registering as a voter is free of charge

It doesn’t even take much of your time.

Monday to Friday, choose the day you want,

Your nearest polling station is waiting for you, so turn up!

Siri ni numbers, budah turn up!

2027 your vote counts, kaka turn up!

Your vote plus my vote will make the difference, dada turn up!

You think we are in a crisis?

Life will be a living hell, if you don’t turn up, to exercise your democratic right.

And by the way I gave Freddy an ultimatum,

I’m cutting him off until he registers as a voter

Because if advice doesn’t work, a threat will surely do.
