THE ROADS CRY OF KIPLOMBE RESIDENTS

By Alex Maina

During a community meeting held at the Chief’s Office in Kambi Thomas, residents turned up in large numbers largely due to the presence of their Area MP, Madam Janet. One major concern raised was the poor state of roads, especially the Kaplelach–Emkwen–Tanzania Soweto, Kaaboi–Lalakin–Emkwen, and Chepkongo–Kapyemit Primary, Josani – Higher vision Church roads, which serve hundreds of locals daily.

Motorcycle riders, who play a crucial role in local transport, voiced their frustrations. They spoke about the high costs they face due to the bad roads. “We keep replacing shocks, bearings, and tyres. It’s draining us,” one rider said. The roads, full of potholes and uneven surfaces, are damaging their livelihoods.

In response, Madam Janet, the MP, explained that under Kenyan law, roads are managed at different levels of government. Members of Parliament (MPs) work through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to support access roads, mostly to schools and public institutions. On the other hand, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), through the county government, are responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of rural and estate roads.

Then came the honest voice of an elder one Mr. David from the crowd who said:

“We don’t care who builds it — we just need the road.”

His words captured the mood of the people tired of waiting, tired of excuses. All they want is action.

Following this heartfelt cry, Madam Janet assured the residents that some of these roads have already been allocated funding in the Ward Development Fund (WDF) 2025/2026 budget. She promised to lobby the MCA and the county government to prioritize the repair and upgrade of these critical roads. She emphasized that though responsibilities may vary, what matters most is collaboration and serving the people’s needs. She also urged residents to continue participating in public participation forums to keep airing their concerns and ensure their voices are heard.

The residents of Kiplombe deserve better. It’s not about who is supposed to do the work it’s about getting the work done. But still the person in charge should do their work. Roads are lifelines. They help people get to work, take children to school, and transport goods. A broken road slows down life. A fixed road moves the community forward.

Now, the people wait hoping this time, the promises turn into action.
