By The Great Imboywa Michael

The river is important, not only to us humans mentally and physically but also to animals and to plants, and if we are careless with it, it will affect the ecosystem and we too will be affected.

But in Kamkunji, ELDOWAS doesn’t seem to understand this, or it’s just self-inflicted ignorance. As it is their habit to take too long to attend to broken and blocked sewages.

Now they have extended their ignorance to the river, the Furfarol river has been the victim of sewage running through it, mixing it with water which some of the people depend on. Getting this river flowing with clean water, which is its obligation, is very rare thanks to Eldowas’ unattended sewage.

People in West Market who use this water to wash their mitumba shoes have complained, but it has never ceased to be a clear indication that they just don’t care. The issue was once told to Lagat, who promised to resolve it and talk to them, but…

Furfarol river, which goes ahead and joins Sosiani river, is on the verge of death as nobody is being responsible, starting from Eldowas for making it a constant sewage flow to residents, making it a dumpsite. Even the new affordable housing has connected its sewer line to the river as the receiving end. Nema needs to save its late, or maybe they are waiting until it’s too late.

As though drainage of the city is prioritized, the relevant authorities should not use shortcuts to solve problems in the name of “saving resources” at the expense of the river. They need to “beat math” properly.
