Residents of Kiboswa in Kisumu County are calling for increased police patrols and improved security following an alleged attack on a man along the Desnol–Korege Road, only a few metres from the Kiboswa Police Post.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 8pm when the man was allegedly confronted by unknown assailants who attacked, beat and robbed him before leaving him injured. He was later rushed to hospital for treatment. the victim with visible injuries to his head and clothing stained with blood.
The latest incident has renewed concerns among residents, who say insecurity along the road has become a serious threat, particularly during evening and night hours.
Jane Atieno a resident said the attack was worrying because it happened close to a police post, raising questions about the effectiveness of security patrols in the area. “We are worried because this attack happened just a few metres from the police post. People should be able to walk home in the evening without fearing that they will be attacked or robbed,” she said.
Nicholas Ouko, another resident recalled that the same area had previously been linked to a fatal robbery incident, saying residents have repeatedly called for stronger security measures. “This is not the first time we are hearing of an attack here. Last year another man was reportedly robbed and killed around the same place. We need more officers and regular patrols before the situation gets worse,” he said.
Residents are now urging security authorities to increase patrols along the Desnol–Korege Road, particularly at night, and to identify areas where criminals may be taking advantage of poor lighting and limited security presence. They also want authorities to engage the community and encourage residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
Police, meanwhile, said they were aware of the reported incident and that investigations would be conducted to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
“We have received the report and investigations are ongoing. We urge anyone who may have information that can assist in identifying the suspects to come forward and share it with the police,” Edwin a police officer said.
The incident has left residents demanding urgent action to prevent a repeat of the attack. They argue that the presence of a police post alone is not enough unless officers conduct regular patrols and respond swiftly to reports of criminal activity.
As concerns continue to grow, residents hope authorities will strengthen security in Kiboswa and restore confidence among people using the road after dark.
