Inside The Estates

By The Great Imboywa Michael

Following the KDF mass recruits sendoff in the name of “drug substances” found in their blood, leaves us with question marks; is it really about drugs or is there something else? Or if it’s really hard drugs, where are they coming from? We all know hard drugs are illegal in our country buuuut……

In Kamkunji, Mwanzo and other villages in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county, “Siku izi bangi imekua common kushinda sigara”.In a group of ten, only one is most likely not using bhang, and that one is only a matter of time before they join the rest, and if they are not using bhang, they are likely to be indulging themselves in other drugs. Kidiwa is a good example. The youths are always idle and high.

Nobody is talking about how this is becoming a problem. The boys and girls as young as 16 are actively engaging in the abuse of substances. When you see two or more together in isolated places, you’d just know the business that is going. With schools closed, it’s more dangerous as it seems parents aren’t really close to their teens, as they leave early and come late, so the teens have the entire day to themselves.

Who is to be blamed? The teens, parents? The police? The one selling them?

But if we blame the teens, where are they getting the drugs? Who is introducing it to them? Why should they use it?

If we blame the parents, are they aware that their kids are being subjected to drugs? Why are they not looking after them? Should they stay at home to take care of their teens in this economy?

What about the police? How sure are we that they have no idea who is selling them? How are the teens getting access to them, yet they are illegal in the country? Could this be a massive political conspiracy?

The truth is, if the relevant authorities will not attend to this matter with urgency, we should prepare for the worst generation to come.

Sending recruits home in the name of “drugs” is not helping. Finding the genesis of it does or else we will lose all the youth to it, and by then it will have cost us.
