IDentity Yetu

By Dikizo the Poet

I’m Kenyan by Birth!! Mkenya Halisi – Si tulisema Kenya Ni Home?

Today, for the youth in my country, this is but an empty slogan

for the Jobless and Unemployed, it’s unaffordable to belong

I speak for my lastborn brother, who waited a year to be known

I’m Kenyan by Birth!! Mkenya Halisi – Tena mbona miezi tisa?

Today, a Waiting Card is like an announcement of pregnancy,

with scheduled prenatal visits to Huduma Centre in trimesters,

Oh, and poor services, unending delays, labor pains – all that lunacy

I’m Kenyan by Birth!! Mkenya Halisi – Kwa kweli mnyonge hana Haki

My countrymen are lost in the reverie of a Constitutional Democracy,

whatever that means for the four million youth – unidentified and unlucky

You see, claiming your rights bila kutoa kitu kidogo is deemed as crazy

I’m Kenyan by Birth!! Mkenya Halisi – Hii ni taabini ya Identity Yetu

Bila IDs, Hatuna Rights, Hatuna Vote, Hatuna Voice – Outsiders ni Mimi Na Wewe

Bila IDs, wamehakikisha Vijana tuko in suspense – Bila Form! Bila Chetu!

Ni Wakati Vijana Tugutuke! Mkombozi wa Kenya Ni Mkenya Mwenyewe!!
