When shall the government notice
That the ground is bleeding
The wind is carrying painful cries
The trees witnessing brutality towards our female gender
That mothers are tired of counting losses
A father somewhere is pretending to be strong
While another mother’s heart keeps on collapsing
Tell me how many daughters must vanish
Before dissaperance stops being news headlines
And becomes a national pandemic.
They say missing children should be reported withing 48hrs
Yet no step is taken to retrieve the child alive
Kila time ni kutu ahidi ahadi zisizokuwa na tamati
Tell me, how many coffins must carry flowers
Before somebody remembers that a nation
Without women is a future without life?
These are not statistics but voices that once laughed
Feet that once danced, eyes that once saw tomorrow
These are stories interrupted by monsters in human faces
And every time a woman dies the nation losses more than a citizen
Every season we hear speaches, words and more words
Words stacked upon words
Like bricks bulding nothing
Press conference bloom faster than solutions
Communities multiply faster than productions
Promises travel faster than justice
While our daughters travel back home with fear
Fear now living between their ribs
Prayers between their lips
And is that freedom.
Government talks of forming technical working groups on GBV
Yet nothing is formed on the ground
Tunawaita maua ya maisha
But which gardener watches its flowers die
What kind of leadership counts petals
Instead of protecting them
Every fallen daughter is a question mark
Hanging over our conscience
Every grave is an accusation
Every tear is a testimony
Na sisi tumechoka…
Tumechoka kuwasha mishuma
Tumechoka na kuandika rest in peace
Tumechoka kuandika mabinti wetu na hashtags
And until every girl can walk home save without fear
Until justice becomes a shield and not a slogan
We shall speak na kupaza sauti kila mahali
Silence has already attended many funerals
