By Dikizo the Poet

A reflective moment of silence for the victims of the 2007 post-election violence,

A contemplative moment of silence for our state-gunned martyrs of the 2024 protests,

A meditative moment of silence for our lost and gone heroes who still Long Live.

Yet still, two decades later – and even as their whispers still haunt our presence

There’s a clique of rogues who still wield machetes where ballots should prevail –

The Drums of War are palpable all around us – elected dealers baying for blood

Even the symbol of Presidency is no longer uniting – We are a Nation under siege,

We are hearing of mocked bodies, pot bellies, rotten breaths – and broken winds,

Name-calling and body-shaming amidst teargas within opposition camps and rallies

Did I mention rallies?! – almost two years before an election? Do we have an IEBC?

Back to our rallies, where we fight on podiums – We are a Nation polarized

Hate speech is cloaked as “truth telling,” and personal attacks sold as priority agendas

We are a Lost Nation with a Dying Soul – still, the Drums of War are palpable,

We are becoming slaves to our history – We are becoming Warriors for Tribes,

We are headed for darkness – We are not lighting torches, We’ve opted for matches
