Insecurity is very dangerous. It causes more damage than people realize, and it makes everyone live in fear. Security should always be a top priority so that people can live freely.
Right now, the rate of insecurity in Kidiwa Estate is rapidly increasing. Young boys are terrorizing residents and travelers. Their favorite hunting grounds are the same, dimly lit areas, public functions, and gatherings.
They take advantage of the darkness because there are no security lights. So if you’re heading home, you’re forced to take a matatu. And if you come back late, you have no option but to take a nduthi, most of which will overcharge you. Some riders even refuse to go there the moment you mention Kidiwa.
The recent disruption of the Radio Citizen event and even the funeral of Lamba Lolo at Kiplombe is a clear example of how far things have gone. There was so much chaos, stealing, and destruction of property. And as usual, the police took their time to respond.
But here’s the question: how come, even with a police station nearby, plus nyumba kumi and community police, these cases are still happening? Or even worse, why are they becoming more rampant? I even heard community police officer Mr. Mark Odongo say they are “slowly talking to the youths” to learn their tactics. But honestly, how realistic is that? And even if it is, how long will it take?
Think about it: if a gang member can steal from you in broad daylight, attack you, and then dare you to “do whatever you think you can,” doesn’t that show they can’t be controlled? To make matters worse, whenever one of them is arrested, they just give out money and walk free.
Here’s the gist: choices have consequences. And if someone makes a choice, they should be ready for what awaits them. As much as these boys act like they have nothing to lose, the OCS, the police, the chief, and the community police should still do their work diligently.
